The United Coffee House story harks back to the late 1930s, a time when undivided India encompassed Delhi, Lahore, and Sialkot. Amid the vibrant tapestry of India’s capital, a growing recognition of its immense business potential inspired the visionary late Lala Hansraj Kalra—a suave liquor baron and passionate hotelier with ventures spanning from Sialkot to Delhi—to establish the city’s very first Café. With his innate flair for hospitality and cosmopolitan outlook, he envisioned more than a dining space; he created a cultural landmark that united people from diverse walks of life, blending ideas, traditions, and conversations under one roof over indulgent savouries, aromatic coffees and enduring charm of British club food . Throughout its storied history, the tables of UCH have been graced by writers and artists, lawyers and journalists, actors and businessmen, luminaries , philanthropists, travelers, politicians, and bureaucrats—reflecting the city’s cultural and social tapestry. With a slice of the Continent on its menu, UCH laid the foundation for a legacy that united people and helped shape Delhi’s evolving culture.
